Let's face it. Even though we are amazed by all those dramatic looks we see so much nowadays, we don't wanna look like that all the time right? Natural-looking brows FTW!
Because my brows are naturally rather dense, I prefer brow product colors that serve to soften my brow hairs which are a harsh, fierce black.
Unless the look calls for strong eyebrows to balance an equally strong look with lotsa colors, which was what I did for the Native American Inspired Look, all my brow products are in shades of brown.
At the same time, I’m happy I have the Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown in my stash otherwise the Native American look would have looked very odd with soft brown brows. Lol.
All my other brow products are in pencil form, manual or automatic, so I got The Face Shop Face It Designing Cake Eyebrow to see how an eyebrow cake powder works.
Two shades to mix and match
I can’t even tell you the names of the individual shades because they’re all in Korean. My best guess would be that, for 01 - Beige Brown, the lighter shade can be called Dark Beige and the darker shade can be called Dark Brown.
HAHAHA! Sorry, so unimaginative. >.<
I like that there are 2 colors in each compact so that you can find the best match for your brows.
I use the lighter shade at the inner corner and the darker shade from two-thirds of the brow till the end.
There are just 2 options to choose from. Mine is 01 – Beige Brown, the other is 02 – Khaki Grey.
Left - 01 Beige Brown; Right - 02 Khaki Grey
Beige Brown generally has a warmer, brownish feel to it than does Khaki Grey.
Pigmentation
Even though the colors are nice and the result natural, it takes forever to get the lighter shade to show. I have to really rub the eyebrow brush into the powder only to get little product on the brush.
If there’s anything good that comes out of being so hard to get out, it’ll be that it’s good for amateurs as you definitely can’t get heavy-handed with this product at all.
It takes so much time to get the lighter shade on that I end up using only the darker shade which still looks pretty awesome by itself.
Here's using the lighter shade on the inner 1/3 of the brow. Nothing on the remaining 2/3.
Lasting Power
Eyebrow cakes are known to be longer lasting than eyeshadow powders used on the brows.
I used NYX Taupe eyeshadow on the brows before but it didn’t take long to fade. The MUA at MAC also told me that even though many people use MAC Espresso eyeshadow for the brows, eyebrow cakes still triumph in terms of lasting prowess.
The Face Shop Designing Cake Eyebrow lasts all day until I take it off.
Packaging
I chose the new Face Shop Face It Designing Cake Eyebrow over the older Face Shop Brow Powder Duo mainly because the tester for the latter was a pathetic sight. The hinge was loose, it looked flimsy, and like it didn’t need more people testing to have the cover completely drop off.
The new Face It packaging has a good clasp, while the older Brow Powder Duo has a magnetic clamp which is rather weak even when I tried those in boxes.
Yup, I based my purchase decision entirely on design comparison. It’s really hard to make a decision when the store’s lighting is all dim and romantic! I had to walk out of the store more than a couple of times just to see my swatches in proper lighting.
We all cave in to makeup product packaging all the time sometimes right? Heh heh.
Applicators
Despite looking so cute on the outside with a secure clasp, the slanted brush that comes with it feels and looks like a toilet brush. I imagine prolonged use of it will cause my brow hairs to fall out. :O
I use the EcoTools angled brush which is softer, has a longer handle for easier blending and is thinner to achieve a more tapered eyebrow tail.
I don’t mind the spoolie though; I use it to get the hairs into position.
I use the Face It Designing Cake Eyebrow when I have time to spare and want natural-looking eyebrows. Another thing I love about this product, or rather, all future eyebrow cakes, is that I don’t need to sharpen anything!
