Just like day and night, when there’s a ‘best’, there must always be a ‘worst’. I haven’t tried every single makeup remover there is in the market (who has?!), but enough to attest that while some outshine the others by a mile, others must be buried ten feet under.
I am on my 4th (5th?) bottle of my favorite Biore Makeup Remover for Eye and Lip and intend to re-purchase it for as long as it is in existence because it does an excellent job of removing even the most tenacious of smudgeproof and water-resistant eye makeup.
Staying over at a friend’s house one night, I had forgotten to pack the Biore Makeup Remover. She kindly lent me her Silkygirl Hydra Clean Makeup Remover and after using it, I screamed at her told her I was shocked that she had been subjecting her eyes and face to such great distress!
What it claims:
Hydra Clean Makeup Remover is a mild and gentle lotion that effectively removes all traces of makeup.
Formulated with moisturizing properties for sensitive and dehydrated skin. Contains Bio-White to brighten skin tone.
Does Not Remove Waterproof and Smudgeproof Makeup
Being a girl who must only use smudgeproof eyeliner and mascara, the Silkygirl Hydra Clean Makeup Remover is not strong enough to remove eye makeup that is resilient to water, oil, and sweat.
Let's put the makeup remover to the test.
I have on:
Eyeshadows: MAC Post Haste, Stars 'N' Rockets', NYX Morocco, Urban Decay Smog, Virgin; Eyeliner: Kate Gel Liner BK-1, Urban Decay 24/7Glide-On Eye Pencil Zero; Mascara: Lancome Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Mascara
Applying remover to the eyes and massaging gently...
After wiping it off, there is still considerable amounts of eyeliner at the roots of the lashes and eyeshadow on the lower lash line.
After going through at least 3 rounds of applying and massaging and wiping off, and 15 agonizing minutes...
It is only slightly better than using water. @_@
Obviously, this does not work well on the waterline at all. So, yup, no Tightlining if you see yourself using the Silkygirl Makeup Remover later. If you want to show people that you have removed your makeup but still want to look like you have naturally thick lashes, then this makeup remover will probably work for you. LOL
No Irritation to Skin
I guess one thing good about this product is that it does not cause a stinging sensation to the eyes like some eye makeup removers I have tried before. That could be attributed to the Vitamin E and Aloe Vera extract in the formula. It is indeed gentle for the eyes and sensitive skin.
However, what good does gentleness to the skin do when it does not even do its job of removing makeup well?
I get so irritated with its inability to fully remove eye makeup that I end up being more rough to my eye area. NOT GOOD.
Clouds Vision
Like the Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil Makeup Remover, the Silkygirl Makeup Remover leaves my vision blurred. It will damage your contact lens if you don’t remove them before using this remover. No matter how hard I close my eyes to prevent product from getting in, I still always end up with an annoyingly blurred vision of the world.
The only difference is that the Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil removes all traces of makeup while the Silkygirl Hydra Clean Makeup Remover doesn't.
I don’t see how this product will work for anyone since it can only, at most, remove very light face makeup like blush and highlight, and eye makeup like light-colored eyeshadows. It is cheaper than a lot of makeup removers out there, but I’d rather pay more to get the results I need.
Bun Bun thinks of the Silkygirl Hydra Clean Makeup Remover as:
Would you get the Silkygirl Makeup Remover? Have you used any makeup removers that were a waste of money?
