They say true love persists and triumphs all odds. So it must be true love that had me continue using the Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner even when it was blunt, broken, and almost hopeless.
I was out with a girlfriend, Qi, some many months ago, when we stopped by Clio’s makeup counter that had a new range of products - Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner.
I’m hardly ever inclined to get new products on the market and prefer to wait around for reviews before deciding whether to throw good money at it. Somehow, that day, I had a calling. No, actually, more like the silly salesgirl told us the booth would be gone by the weekend and the Clio eyeliners will not be available until November. That was in May. However, by the very next weekend, the pencils were everywhere. -.-“
Good marketing strategy though. Instil FEAR.
I swatched the Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner and had to pretend it wasn’t anything much in front of the promoter so she wouldn’t know I was actually VERY impressed with the swatches. I like to keep my cool in front of promoters lest they pounce on my vulnerability. LOL.
Add to that the FEAR strategy and I was 98% sold. The 2% came from Qi who said “I’m gonna get it”. Okie. $18.90 down on something I hardly knew anything about.
I got the brown, she got the black and we had a chance of spinning the wheel for a price. Got a silly tiny bottle of eye makeup remover. But the first prize was hardly enticing either, some trolley bag or something.
Love Child Of Gel And Pencil
I LOVE that they’re very much like gel liners – the lasting power, smoothness, glidability – but in pencil form for greater convenience and lower price.
I used Star Purple and Metalic Silver in this purple-blue-green-yellow makeup tutorial.
Dupes?
Like the Loreal HiP Chrome Eyeliners, these Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liners are also very soft on the skin, but much sturdier than the former.
Silver Lightning's shimmer bits are slightly larger and does not last as long on the inner corner of the eye as Metalic Silver. Is it me or does Silver Lightning really seem chunkier?
Metalic Silver is as soft, yet sturdier and lasts longer. I also prefer Metalic Silver's silver coz it's less aluminum foil-ish.
Star Purple has a black undertone with purple shimmer. I like that it's almost black when you layer it on, yet tiny purple sparkles catch your eye, enough to tell you 'Hey, I'm purple okie!'. It's much, much, more pigmented than Violet Volt, as you can see for yourself. Both swatched with two layers.
Learnt To Love The Hard Way
The one thing I wasn’t very pleased with was the sharpening process. Okie, I ought to read instructions more carefully, but who does with an eyeliner pencil?!?
Eyeliner pencil = Use eyeliner pencil sharpener
Who would have thought using a typical eyeliner pencil sharpener would destroy the aesthetics and functionality of the pencil? Tell me, WHO!!!
Look at how mine turned out.
'cui' means hopeless in Hokkien
That's the consequence of using an external eyeliner pencil sharpener. The moment I inserted the pencil into the sharpener and twisted, I knew something was wrong - it was metal grinding against very hard plastic - but I didn't know how else to sharpen it.
Apparently you’ve gotta twist up the other end of the pencil to get more length and use the attached sharpener to sharpen the tip.
I guess it’s good that it’s retractable and easily sharpened. But before knowing how to properly sharpen it, I really didn’t like the way it worked (or shall I say, the way I made it work).
Super Long-lasting On Oily Lids And Lower Lash Line
If an eyeliner pencil can stay put on my oily lids for hours without smudging, it’s really good. Most gel liners do that for me.
But if an eyeliner pencil stays put on my oily lower lash line for hours without smudging, it’s a MIRACLE.
I use Clio Gelpresso Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner in Star Purple on my lower lash line so often I find that I look weird without anything there. I like Dark Choco very much too but the blunt edges are a little too dangerous.
Gorgeous, gorgeous brown, isn't it?
Coloring the lower lash line is really important to me as I have puffy eyebags (I know you guys keep telling me they're not eyebags and they’re cute but… I’d rather they be smaller a bit, can?). Drawing on the LLL really further defines my eyes.
While some other pencils sting and smudge the moment I apply them to the LLL, the Clio ones just sit there and stay put like a good Asian kid. *thumbs up*
I wish the Bourjois Clubbing Contour Eyeliner in Blue Remix could stay on my LLL as well as this Clio one coz it's such a cool color to have on the LLL! Too bad it slides off my oily, watery LLL too quickly. Stays well on the eyeline though.
I bought Dark Choco, while Star Purple and Metalic Silver were sponsored. Clio Singapore sent them to me probably coz they saw my review on the Clio Waterproof Brush Liner, which I also love very much!
But being sponsored for these 2 pencils obviously doesn't change the way I think about them.
You know why?
Coz by the time you read this post, my friend's coming back from Korea with all the other colors in the range for me. HAHAHA! YES!!! EXCITED!!!

Is SGD18.90 a comfortable price for an eyeliner? (It is, to me, especially for this quality!) Do you color your lower lash line? Have you ever bought an entire range of colors just because you liked some of them and wanted to own them all?
