If you've ever unintentionally (or maybe purposely out of sheer curiosity) purchased a fake MAC eyeshadow, you'd know it comes in a MAC look-alike black pot on the outside, but on closer experiment, the back side of it houses a sponge applicator and for some packaging, a mirror too.
And this is how the L'Oreal HiP Eyeshadow Duos look like - with a useless compartment with an equally ineffective sponge applicator.
Tools needed for depotting eyeshadows:
- Flat iron
- Aluminium foil or wax paper
- Push pin or thumb tack
- A tool with a sharp and strong tip
- Isopropyl Alcohol (70% is fine)
- A dish (to pour the alcohol in)
- Cotton buds
- Cloth or towel
- Magnet
- Scissors
- Sticker
- Pen
4 Easy Steps to Depot L'Oreal HiP Eyeshadow Duo:
(I guess you could depot fake MAC eyeshadows this way too :P)
Step 1: Open bottom lid
There is no need to pour rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alocohol) or pry separate any part of the eyeshadow pot. Simply open the BOTTOM lid and let the open compartment receive heat from the flat iron.
Step 2: Remove the eyeshadow from the palette
After an approximate... erm... 5 minutes (I never really time how long I wait. It's all based on gut feel), remove the eyeshadow palette from under the flat iron. Now, use the sharp tool to easily lift the eyeshadow pan. The glue for the L'Oreal HiP Duo Eyeshadows is rather thin and therefore makes extraction from the tray relatively easy compared to MAC or NYX ones.
There is also plenty of space between the plastic tray and the metal pan, so that you can ease the tool within the gaps without having to be too careful about slipping and cutting the tool into the eyeshadow (HORROR!!!).
Step 3: Clean the under side
This is where the dish comes into use. Pour the Isopropyl Alcohol into the dish and dip the cotton bud into it.
Clean the metal side of the eyeshadow pan. This step is essential in ensuring a clean, smooth, and flat surface for the magnet to stick on.
Step 4: Paste a magnet and name it
Cut out the magnet and write the name of the eyeshadow on a sticker.
I'm so glad I depotted the L'Oreal HiP Eyeshadow Duos. The bulky packaging was taking up so much precious space in my makeup stash, and having to open the pot and look at the badly pigmented matte sides of these eyeshadow duos always made me upset that I paid for only one side of it, even though the good side really is gorgeous.
