I never understood why brides aimed to have the perfect bridal glow - until I became a bride myself.
The ‘bridal glow’ came naturally, a flush made of feelings of love, excitement, nervousness, and anticipation as I walked down the aisle towards a future with my husband.
But that flush was also due in part to the *secret revealed* Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush that I wore for both the garden wedding and dinner banquet. Heh heh.
I was taken aback by the neon pink slab of powder when I first saw my MUA taking it out of her bag, but she assured me it was a blush that fits 80% of her clients.

When applied, it indeed looked natural and nothing like the scary neon pink that screamed the 80s.
In the months following my wedding, I hunted down this blush but always got put off by the price tag. =O Besides, when it was my turn to swatch it, I could not get past the bizarre neon pink. When I decided to bite the bullet and get it, it was ALWAYS out of stock! It was many months later that I finally found it at NEX Sephora and since there was a 20% Sephora sale, HAD.TO.GET.IT.
So I brought it home, tried it, and absolutely hated it. (Update: No, I LOVE IT NOW!)
It made my face look bloated, like I got smacked on my left cheek, then the right. My many years of playing with blushes meant nothing in the face of Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush. I could not get the application right and after the third attempt, I gave up. It stayed abandoned in my makeup mess for many months before I picked it up again.
This time, I think I’m getting the hang of it! Funny how this is happening considering I changed nothing in my application. Oh okie, maybe a little, which is a lot. Lol.
Color-Adapting Universal Shade
As Dior states, ‘The unique formula adjusts to your skin’s natural chemistry’, this universal shade Petal #001 works regardless of skin undertones. This claim was also what intrigued me when I was doing my initial research, that there’s a universal shade that will look good on all skintones despite its cool lilac-pink appearance.
People with cool undertones say it looks good on them, people with warm undertones also report it looks good on them. How interesting! 😀
One thing in common is that this blush makes everyone look like they just returned from a brisk walk, with naturally flushed cheeks. This blush lasts pretty long, it clocked 8 hours on mine.
How To Properly Use Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush
What I previously did was apply the Dior like a regular blush. With blushes with good pigmentation like MAC Pro Long Wear or NARS or Benefit Rockateur, I use my favorite Hakuhodo J110 Blush Brush to pick up the product and bounce the brush on my cheeks. I do not sweep.
This technique used on the Dior Rosy Glow made my cheeks look like a baboon’s backside. =.=
The change I made this time was using the little flat brush that came with the packaging to apply in sweeping motions. This is the only comes-with applicator that I use, because it's good enough. If you use a fluffy brush for this Dior blush you will see almost nothing.
Because the color-adjusting properties take time to meld with your skin, resist the urge to it pile it on. I apply sparingly each time, and much less than I usually would for other blushes, knowing that applying too much would make my face look swollen.
Every Time A Gamble
I daren’t say I am in love with this blush. I’d rather have a blush that stays almost the same shade from start to end, especially when I’m wearing a strong lip color with an obvious undertone.
Say I’m wearing a pink lipstick with cool undertones. I don’t want to go about not knowing if the blush will remain pink, or turn peachy, or pull towards red at the end of the day.
On me, the Dior Rosy Glow tends to change into a flattering natural rosy-peach shade, so I'll to wear it when my lip color leans warm or neutral.
Take a look at a simple experiment I did here:
The right swatch was applied 1 minute after the left. If you look closely, you can tell that the right is slightly more peachy than the left which is relatively pinker. I deduce that the heat from friction applied for the left swatch warmed up my finger, hence making the right swatch warmer. A few minutes later, they both looked nice and rosy on my hand, with no distinct difference. How cool!
The color-adapting concept is fun and interesting, but it's a blush that takes practice. If you get it right, you’ll look amazing, otherwise if you don’t.
